Package.ai Announces AI-Backfill for Increased Efficiency in Last Mile Logistics

Package.ai, the only AI-based platform unifying customer engagement and last-mile logistics for home furnishing, appliance retailers, and service providers, today announced the launch of AI-Backfill, a new AI-powered capability that intelligently fills empty truck space caused by delivery schedule changes and unoptimized routing—helping retailers increase efficiency and reduce manual effort across the board.

Empty space on trucks is one of the most persistent and costly problems in home furnishings and appliances delivery. Whether due to customer rescheduling, cancellations, or inefficiencies in route planning, valuable capacity is left unused every day.

Unlike rule-based scheduling tools, AI-Backfill continuously learns from order patterns, customer behavior, and truck availability to predict and fill gaps automatically. It analyzes upcoming orders and vehicle space, identifies high-fit candidates for early delivery, and reaches out to customers to confirm availability—all while re-optimizing truck routes in real time.

One of Package.ai's customers using AI-Backfill, says that "fishing those candidates every day takes me hours. This is a real time saver." Other early adopters say it is already showing 30% improvement in truck utilization.

"AI-Backfill is a major step forward for delivery teams," said Ziv Fass, CEO and Co-Founder of Package.ai. "Rather than settling for half-full trucks, spending hours trying to reshuffle deliveries to fill those gaps, retailers can now rely on AI to make thousands of micro-decisions at scale—the kind of rapid, detailed adjustments that are impossible to manage manually. The result is smarter planning, fuller trucks, and a better experience for customers—with dispatchers and service teams freed up to focus on higher-value work."

With just one click, Package.ai's virtual agent Jenny evaluates all relevant orders, initiates outreach to eligible customers, and slots confirmed deliveries directly into the open route. The tool is already in use across leading retailers, helping them operate with higher truck density, fewer missed opportunities, and reduced workload on dispatch and service teams.

AI-Backfill builds on Package.ai's existing platform, which unifies customer engagement and logistics—from automated scheduling and service messaging to real-time issue resolution. Jenny, the platform's virtual agent, is already deployed at scale across more than 120 retailers and is trusted by leaders in home furnishings and appliance delivery.

"Retailers are moving away from fragmented workflows and outdated systems," added Fass. "They want platforms that bring efficiency and experience together—and AI-Backfill shows how powerful that can be."
