Knoll brings a fresh perspective to one of its most renowned, sculptural yet simple designs by Eero Saarinen, the Saarinen Pedestal Collection, by debuting three new finishes: Topo Noir Veneer, with a mesmerizing grain in deep black stain; Emperador Light Marble, a stunning marble with light brown lacy veining; and Modern Clay, a soft to the touch laminate.
Originally designed in 1957, this collection of dining, side, coffee, and lounge tables reflects Eero Saarinen’s purist approach to architecture and design. His pedestal base encourages visual and physical freedom in any interior, allowing the table to interact seamlessly with its surroundings. Serving as ideal canvases for wood, stone, and laminate, the round and oval tabletops are transformed through this elevated new palette that now includes an engineered wood veneer, a new marble, and an innovative laminate.
Knoll debuts Topo Noir Veneer, a tabletop made of reconstituted wood. This quality veneer is distinguished by a highly figured grain pattern with mesmerizing movement that captures the richness of natural wood. Produced with a sustainability mindset, it uses wood remnants, creating a striking yet responsible material choice.
Also joining the collection are Emperador Light Marble and Modern Clay Laminate. Knoll now offers Emperador Light Marble, a warm, neutral-toned marble ideal for residential and hospitality interiors. Its delicate veining and soft tonality pair beautifully with oak and other woods, allowing designers to create cohesive, sleek experiences. Featuring only the highest quality marble, each tabletop is chosen to have favorable working qualities and fewest geological flaws.
Modern Clay is a soft-touch laminate made from paper and thermosetting resins. Its self-edge construction gives it the appearance of a solid material, while its ultra-matte, anti-fingerprint finish makes it both modern and durable, perfect for high-use environments.
“It’s vital to keep Knoll’s historic collections alive, charged with contemporary energy, capturing the interests and codes of our time. The new finishes on the Saarinen tables allow us to see the tables in a new light, perhaps as if for the first time,” commented Senior Vice President of Design, Jonathan Olivares.
