Nearly 200 hundred children, supported by Boston-area nonprofits, thought they were getting a tour of the facility. Instead, as they ran through the New England Patriots inflatable helmet onto the turf, they learned Bob’s had provided a mattress, foundation, and pillow for each of them at Gillette Stadium during the 4th Bed-Zone Bash.
New bedding was provided by the Patriots, personal care items were provided by Hope & Comfort, and a plush teddy was provided by Build-A-Bear Workshop. Bob’s also provided a Little Bob plushie for each child.
This year’s Bed-Zone Bash took place during the New England Patriots Training Camp. Bob’s Discount Furniture, in partnership with the New England Patriots, has provided 800 beds to children in need since the event first took place in 2018.
Andre Tippett, Pro Football Hall of Famer and New England Patriots executive director of community affairs, addressed the crowd of children and families in attendance. “We want each of you to be successful and do well in the upcoming school year,” he said. “In order to do that, it’s important to get a good night’s sleep.”
Carol Glaser, EVP, chief merchandising officer, Bob’s Discount Furniture, echoed this sentiment, stating, “As someone who has enjoyed a career in the furniture business but more importantly as a mother, I have seen firsthand how important a good night’s sleep can be.”
She also noted how important supporting the community is to Bob’s. “It means so much to be surrounded by people who care deeply about our community and who believe, as we do, that every child deserves a safe, comfortable place to sleep,” she said.
Glaser continued, “Today is not just about a furniture donation or a fun time on the field. Today is about dignity, it is about comfort, it is about letting families know that they are not alone—and that their community sees them, supports them, and cares for them.”
Before jumping on beds, playing games, and partaking in the many activities of the day, the children and families were treated to a surprise visit by Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft, as well as many players who spent time signing autographs, playing catch, and even competing in 50-yard dash races.
Attendees of the Bed-Zone Bash included children and families supported by and A Bed for Every Child, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Father Bill’s & MainSpring, and Ellis Early Learning.
“This is so exciting for our families, specifically those who have recently been housed and are moving right out of a shelter” said Cherish Casey, family engagement social worker at Ellis Early Learning. “Their child is going to be so excited to have their own bed and be able to sleep comfortably.”
More than 40 volunteers from Bob’s Discount Furniture donated time for the event – something all employees look forward to all year long.
“One of my favorite things about Bob’s is our core values—especially the core value of community,” said Michael Holland who served as the event volunteer coordinator and is the regional training lead for Bob’s. “I am so excited that today, myself and 40 other volunteers got to come and give back to the community with the Bed-Zone Bash.”
Volunteers from the New England Patriots Foundation, Waltham High School football team and Dexter Southfield School athletics teams also contributed to the success of the event.
