Hall of Fame architect and interior designer Lauren Rottet, FAIA, FIIDA, and her Rottet Collection have won Prize Designs for Modern Furniture + Lighting Awards for her Cake Lamp and Luminosa Screen – both developed and handmade in Italy.
Organized by Global Design News in tandem with The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, the original awards program was launched in 1949 by The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
The “Prize Designs for Modern Furniture” were conceived to encourage the best of contemporary design while highlighting exemplary examples in the furniture industry, and thereby stimulating manufacturing. Seven decades later, this award is experiencing a global re-launch.
“I’m very pleased with this honor and my appreciation goes to the judges for this accolade, said Rottet.,” said Rottet.
The Luminosa Screen, a new typology of light, combines her ongoing fascination with kinetic art along with her appreciation for the Light and Space movement. Working in tandem with Rubelli, Rottet utilized one of the brand’s sumptuous fabrics and embedded it with woven strands of LED fabric, transforming it into a functioning screen supported by a metal frame.
Her Cake Lamp, a whimsical handmade light inspired by an elevated cake stand, features hand-etched Italian crystal with a single vertically positioned bulb. When illuminated, the top radiates from within, emitting a soft, warm glow.
Rottet Collection can be viewed by appointment only at the New York Showroom, 29 West 30 th St., 6th Floor, New York City. 866-400-4777.
