IKEA Enters Third Year of Global Social Entrepreneurship Collection with Expansion of MÄVINN

IKEA proudly enters the third year of its global social entrepreneurship collection MÄVINN, reinforcing the commitment to handcraftsmanship and sustainable livelihoods. At IKEA, we believe that an inclusive world starts with fair access to job opportunities.

Since 2012, IKEA has been dedicated to creating meaningful job opportunities through partnerships with social enterprises in vulnerable areas around the globe. Today, IKEA is proud to unveil the latest MÄVINN collection: 18 handcrafted items where artisans’ heritage, traditional skills and resilient creativity shape a tangible better everyday life at home.

Made to make a change
Building on the success of previous launches, the 2025 MÄVINN collection features 18 handmade products crafted by artisans in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Jordan, and Thailand. Each piece highlights traditional craftsmanship and innovative uses of natural materials, bringing cultural heritage with contemporary design.

MÄVINN is more than home furnishings—they’re sources of empowerment. Every basket, rug, and lampshade carries the pride of artisans working toward not just financial independence, but a more resilient future, improved social positions, and greater opportunities for their families.  As Magnus Nord, the Implementation Leader for Social Entrepreneurship at IKEA, notes: “MÄVINN is about empowering positive change for the artisans and their communities, like a stone creating ripples in water, the impact of it resonates far beyond the surface. When you choose these pieces, you’re investing in someone’s ability to build a future.” By selecting MÄVINN, you support sustainable livelihoods and help create a more inclusive society—all while bringing home pieces crafted with intention, heart, and a story to tell. From age-old techniques to thoughtfully sourced materials, every detail reflects the artisans' skills and purposeful design.

Co-creation with people and nature
This edition’s theme—table setting—embodies the power of gathering. By collaborating with different social businesses, IKEA makes room for more people to share in the value of co-creation. Every piece in the MÄVINN collection celebrates two essential ingredients: the artisans’ collaborative spirit and the natural materials they transform.

Co-creation lies at the heart of MÄVINN. These handcrafted products not only keep local traditions and knowledge alive but also offer IKEA customers globally a chance to connect. Designer Maria Vinka explains: “I love working with the MÄVINN collections since all the creating occurs in collaboration with skilled social businesses and artisans. They bring in their craft, and we amplify their work and bring it to the customer. It’s a continuous dialogue.”

Staying true to its roots, MÄVINN continues to prioritize natural, renewable materials like banana bark, jute, and palm leaves whenever possible. The raw textures of these fibers bring warmth and authenticity to spaces, while their durability mirrors the resilience of the communities behind them. “Natural materials are full of lessons. They evolve with time, just like the hands that shape them,” Maria continues.

A shared path forward

Most of the social businesses contributing to the MÄVINN collection operate in remote rural areas frequently impacted by unfavorable societal and climate conditions. The path to progress is rarely smooth, but IKEA remains committed to moving forward alongside these communities despite various obstacles. Each challenge is a stepping stone, and every livelihood improvement makes the journey worthwhile. “For me, MÄVINN represents not just exquisite craftsmanship, but also a collaborative journey to empower artisans and businesses, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come. Each product serves as a testament to the dedication and talent of the artisans we collaborate with,” Magnus adds.

The MÄVINN collection will be available in IKEA stores worldwide and online starting in July 2025. The next edition is set to launch in January 2026. IKEA remains dedicated to transforming craftsmanship into positive change. Moving forward, a new edition of MÄVINN will be released every six months.
