Leading Italian bedding manufacturer Magniflex has been constructing its mattress and pillows collections from an extensive sleep study conducted by researchers at the University of Zaragoza in Spain. The two most notable introductions are the MagniStretch line-up that uses a combination of innovative foams and cooling fabrics that align the spine for a more restorative and comfortable night’s sleep.
Prof. Antonio Herrera and Prof. Luis Gracia of the Aragon Health Research Institute at the university led the study. The foundation of the study was science showing that biomechanical movement by people during the day leads to a compression of the spinal column which can result in discomfort and possibly health issues over time.
The team analyzed the patented MagniStretch technology, which is the primary driver of the mattress’s rehabilitative qualities. When a person lies on the mattress and pillow, the system creates gentle traction and spinal decompression. This effect is further enhanced by the Memoform padding, which contributes to the traction and decompression.

“In biomechanical terms, the new mattress design fulfills the predicted functionality. It generates a traction mechanism on the spinal column with physiological limits and during nighttime rest,” the report cites. “That increases the mattress’s effectiveness, with ranges of movement and loads that help in recovering the height and functionality of intervertebral discs, boosting the natural mechanism without producing adverse effects.”
“With objective results, it is possible to state that the new mattress design presents a functionality that is beneficial for the spinal column’s biomechanical-recovery mechanisms during the rest phase, since it leads to greater and quicker recovery in respect of intervertebral disc height and relations of the musculature of the spinal column,” the report concluded.
“The study shows that our mattress and pillow construction contributes to better health and a more restorative night’s sleep,” said Ian Hayes, vice president of sales for Magniflex USA. “These products, used in tandem, constitute a comprehensive sleep system that will improve performance for all consumers every night.”
MagniStretch comes in two sku’s, the 12, with a medium comfort feel, and the Plus, with a medium to soft feel. The collection retails from $2,599 and $3,299 in queen. The mattresses are made in the United States.
There are four pillows in the collection. Magniflex uses a unique sizing model for the new made-in-Italy pillow line. It believes that pillow height is the best metric for consumers to use in selecting the right product, so it offers models that are 4, 5, 6 and 7 inches in height, respectively, to ensure proper head and neck alignment.
The pillow cover features MagniCool fabric, engineered to dissipate heat and keep sleepers cool throughout the night, combined with a breathable 3D band that promotes airflow for enhanced relaxation. The collection is priced at $229, regardless of size.
According to Magniflex, the Magnistretch pillow is classified as a Class I medical device. It is also OEKO-Tex certified.
