Fromental Marks 20th Anniversary as the Design House Heads into Third Decade

2025 marks a milestone year for Fromental as the luxury wallcovering house celebrates its 20th anniversary. Founded in 2005 by visionary partners Tim Butcher and Lizzie Deshayes, Fromental has spent two decades redefining what it means to create original decorative art.

"Twenty years ago, we embarked on Fromental with creative vision and a strong determination, driven by a desire to bring our own ideas to life. What began as an immersive journey into expressing our creativity has evolved into something greater - celebrating the transformative power of wallcoverings to utterly change the mood and atmosphere of any space, " say Lizzie Deshayes and Tim Butcher, co-founders of Fromental.

What began as a passion project to craft the world's most beautiful, unique wallpapers has evolved into a globally recognized luxury design house that bridges the gap between fine art and interior design. Fromental has consistently pushed the boundaries of traditional wallcovering, creating bespoke, hand-painted and hand-embroidered panoramic designs that transform spaces into immersive works of art.

The company blends historic classicism (sometimes with a twist!) with both traditional and innovative techniques. The skilled artisans in China, where their main production studio is located, employ traditional craftsmanship in every design that forms the foundation of so much of Fromental's work, but Tim and Lizzie also believe that cutting-edge technology, when used with the correct intent, can be just as remarkable.

Archive-quality printers are used to create hybrid wallcoverings, and an upcoming launch will introduce AR capabilities, proving their finger is on the pulse while maintaining the idea that beauty should transcend passing trends, resulting in wallcoverings that are both timeless and thoroughly contemporary. From delicate, graceful butterflies and blooming magnolias to bold metallic tea paper designs and mountainscape collages, each Fromental creation represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and artistic vision.

As Fromental enters their third decade, this anniversary year celebrates both their remarkable legacy and exciting future. They've introduced best-sellers that have remained in the collection for 15-20 years, changed how original decorative art is used in interiors, and forged collaborations spanning fashion (Harris Reed), porcelain (Raynaud), and crystal (Lalique).

Looking ahead, they're launching Papier Chinois - a new printed wallpaper collection in September - while continuing partnerships and beginning new ones (details to come!). With twenty years of proven excellence and a client base including the world's most prestigious hotels, residences, and commercial spaces, Fromental stands as a testament to enduring artisanal craftsmanship across every field they touch.

Deshayes and Butcher said, "In our increasingly digital world, we've remained committed to the premium of human craftsmanship while thoughtfully incorporating new technologies like printing, which is often allied with traditional hand-painting or hand-embroidered techniques, and even into augmented reality. We don't chase trends; instead, we create timeless designs built to endure, maintaining their appeal as everything around them changes. These twenty years have flashed by, producing a substantial body of work, but rather than dwelling on legacy, we look forward with hope, to be remembered alongside the great pattern designers who have enlivened walls and created beauty that remains relevant decades later."
