Furniture Bank in Metro Atlanta Recovering After Devastating Fire

The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta is an organization whose mission is to create stability for families and individuals in need so "they can turn their houses into homes." The vision is for every family to have the furniture they need to make this a reality.
Sadly, in the early morning of June 18, a fire caused devastating damage to the warehouse, and all the contents were completely lost, including more than 800 mattresses, 500 dressers, and a warehouse full of other furnishings, all of which were earmarked for families in urgent need.
Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the fire had a significant impact on the organization's ability to serve clients. At this time, they are unable to accept furniture donations as they work to identify a temporary space and begin the process of restoring operations.
Executive director Megan Anderson said, " We are hoping to be in temporary warehouse space this week and will need furniture donations in order to catch up with clients and make up for all we have lost."
The outpouring of concern and support from the community has been encouraging and moving. The generous donations of gently used furnishings, volunteer time, and financial contributions have always been the backbone of the work the Furniture Bank does.
At this time, financial support is the most effective way to help. Monetary donations will allow temporary space to be secured, essential inventory to be replaced, and their mission of providing furniture to families and individuals in need to resume.
