Trump Tariffs Are Traveling Through the Courts - Are You Keeping Up?
June 1,
2025 by Karen Parrish in Business Strategy, Industry
Since the beginning of the Trump Trade & Tariff War of 2025, the status of the tariffs have been harder to keep track of than where the socks go when you put them in the dryer, or where your package is when it's been out for delivery for three days in a row. It's all one big puzzle to be solved by the courts.
In the past week alone, the U.S. Court of International Trade has ruled the tariffs illegal that had been imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and then a federal court allowed them to go forward after a challenge was brought by the administration until the appeal could be considered that was brought by the administration.
So far, the back and forth of the courts has come down to keeping the tariffs that are in place with China, Canada and Mexico and maintaining the "reciprocal" rates that were announced and then paused in early April right where they are.
The last chapter in this section of the tariff saga will likely land at the Supreme Court like many of the other emergency laws and executive order's whose consequences have required intervention.
However this particular judgement ends up, no doubt this is not the last we will hear about courts, rulings, emergencies, arguments, puzzles, and also tariffs.
Don't worry, though, if you are looking for a way to stay on top of what is happening with tariffs and what country has what rate and when the deadline the rate to take effect, there are plenty of trackers out there to help you keep up. Here are just a few to keep you up-to-date:
