Ingka Group is on a journey to create a better IKEA that is more accessible, affordable, and sustainable. The company is investing substantially in expansion and revamping existing stores, as well as digital development, to create a unique omnichannel experience for its customers. The company is committed to keeping prices as low as possible and accelerating its efforts to further reduce its climate footprint across the value chain, while also looking into how it can increase efficiency and simplify ways of working to ensure it is financially fit for generations to come.
Ingka Group has 594 customer meeting places, including 375 flagship stores. Last year, 43 new locations opened across the world, with dozens of new stores and plan and order points of various sizes being added to the IKEA map during the ongoing fiscal year. At the same time, the company is exploring how it can increase efficiency and reduce complexity across business functions – efforts that are necessary to ensure the business remains better equipped to make fast, customer-focused decisions. This includes investing in new digital tools and services to drive innovation, developing co-workers’ ways of working and improving customer experience.
As a result, 55 office-based jobs, in global functions based in Malmö, are at risk of being made redundant in Sweden. The goal is to design a more efficient organisation that makes better and faster decisions, with the support of new digital solutions and automation. At the same time, the company continues to expand in several markets, recruiting new co-workers who can be even closer to customers.
“Decisions like this are never easy, and we will support all impacted co-workers in the best possible way during this difficult time – always guided by our culture and values. People continue to be the heart of our business and as we continue to develop our business in challenging times, we are always looking into how we remain relevant for our co-workers and customers now and in the future,” says Ulrika Biesèrt, chief people and culture officer at Ingka Group.
In a challenging and fast-changing global economic environment, with high interest rates and inflation in many countries, Ingka Group continues to look at all parts of the business to strengthen and ensure it continuously adapts to improving customer experience.
“In the coming years, our focus is to remain a resilient business and be ready to navigate future challenges. An important part of this is investing in our co-workers and their skills to remain competitive, grow our business, and drive innovation. The journey can sometimes be uncertain, but we are confident we will succeed as we have many times before,” says Ulrika Biesèrt.
