Habersham Furniture Announces Passing of Founder at 95

It is with deep sadness that Habersham Furniture announces the passing of its founder, Joyce Edwards Cash Eddy, who passed peacefully in her home on October 24, 2024, at the age of 95. A visionary entrepreneur, gifted artist, and creative force, Joyce leaves behind a legacy of timeless design and family-inspired tradition that has enriched homes and communities for over five decades.

Born on October 4, 1929, in Ravenna, Ohio, to William and Cora Mae Cash, Joyce was an accomplished business leader, mentor, and cherished friend. In 1972, drawing on her profound love for art, antiques, and design, she founded Habersham Furniture in Clarkesville, Georgia. Under her guidance, the company grew from a local artisan endeavor into a nationally recognized brand celebrated for impeccable craftsmanship, classic style, and enduring quality.

Joyce’s entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to uplifting women in business earned her significant recognition. In 1984, she was honored as Business Woman of the Year, and in 1986, President Ronald Reagan recognized her as Georgia Business Woman of the Year during a White House briefing for women entrepreneurs. These accolades stand as a testament to her determination, passion, and enduring influence on American industry.

For those who knew her personally, Joyce’s life was defined by compassion, faith, and a heartfelt desire to share beauty. She lived with a fiery spirit and generosity, leaving a positive imprint on everyone who crossed her path. Her family and friends take comfort in the countless stories from those whose lives she touched—customers, colleagues, and community members who appreciated not only her artistic vision, but also her kindness and authenticity.

After a distinguished career, Joyce retired from Habersham in 2016, entrusting the leadership of the company to her son Matt Eddy, who now guides the family business alongside his own children, Brandon and Mallory Eddy. Under this dedicated family team, Habersham remains true to its founder’s original vision of bringing art, beauty, and timeless craftsmanship into every home.

“Joyce built a life and a company around celebrating art and design,” said Matt Eddy. “Her legacy lives on in the pieces we create the relationships we build, and in our commitment to quality and elegance. We remain steadfast in carrying her vision forward with the same passion and integrity she inspired.”

Joyce is survived by her sister, Joni Cash Day; her two sons, Craig (Juli) Eddy and Matthew (Donna) Eddy; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
