'Tis the Season to Be Giving, Generous, and Jolly

Around the country and around the holidays, it is often a time of generosity, fundraising for charity, or donations being made in the spirit of the season.

Here is a very small sampling of those to enjoy and celebrate from around the country and the internet:

KDKA in Pittsburg, PA reported that for the 5th year Get Marty has partnered with Robert Levin and his team at Levin Furniture and Mattress to give several families a life-changing holiday gift.  It started with nominations from around the region for families to receive the gift of $5,000 in furniture. With the help of the amazing folks at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania five deserving families were chosen.

WTOP news in Washington, DC reported that D.C. United, the region’s MLS soccer club, teamed up with Marlo Furniture to donate beds at five SOME housing facilities. In total, 30 full and 30 twin size mattresses were donated, along with comforter sets, bed platforms, sheets and pillows.

— Wayside furniture in Ohio had an "after Thanksgiving Giving Event" where customers could bring in a donation for one of their favorite charitable organizations and Wayside Furniture would make a matching contribution up to $100 between 11/29 - 12/2 or until $200,000 is given.

— Walker's Furniture in the Northwest have a year-round charitable focus called "Walker's Cares." Links on the store's main site highlight various programs including Charities of the Week.

— Bob's Furniture & Mattress, with locations nationwide, also has a charitable focused  organization called Bob's Cares and also have a focused blog called MyBob's that highlight the various events that the stores have participated in this holiday season.

Again, this is a small selection of stores and companies who have used the time and resources of their company and personnel to make their communities a better place during the holidays. Not at ALL comprehensive, obviously.

Looking ahead into the New Year...

— On May 2 the spring Share the Chair event will take place at The Pavilion at The Angus Barn in Raleigh, NC. This event is a dinner, auction, and celebration marking 15 years of impactful service by The Green Chair Project, a non-profit that provides the essentials of home to individuals and families overcoming homelessness, crisis, and disaster.

Central to the event is the creative contribution of selected designers, who will reimagine chairs to be auctioned or sold at Share the Chair. Designers across North Carolina are invited to apply for the 2025 Share The Chair Designer Class, an opportunity to showcase their talent while contributing to a meaningful cause. The deadline for applications is January 9 at 5pm.
