TYG – New Collection of Pre-Cut Fabrics by IKEA

With 20 patterns created together by 13 designers from diverse backgrounds, IKEA proudly announces the launch of Tyg, a collection of 3-metre pre-cut fabrics designed to spark imagination and foster connections via the power of textiles.

Through dynamic patterns and colours that reflect Scandinavian modern design, Tyg invites everyone to dare to be creative, offering endless possibilities for personalisation.

For over 80 years, meter fabrics have been defining IKEA identity and home textiles. As highlighted in the latest “Magical Patterns” exhibition at the IKEA Museum in Älmhult, Sweden, the heart of IKEA. With Tyg, we have not only embraced and strengthened our identity but also reinforced our commitment.

By transitioning to 3-metre pre-cut fabrics, we are taking a firm step towards improved accessibility by offering both online and in-store purchasing experiences. At the same time, we encourage people to unleash their creativity with the minimum means while living a more mindful lifestyle.

“At IKEA, our identity is deeply intertwined with the textiles,” says Marie Olsson, range area manager home textiles & rugs, IKEA of Sweden AB. “Historically, we are recognised for our patterns and textiles, which have a long-standing heritage of bold expressions that tell stories.”

“The new Tyg collection continues that journey with many inspirational expressions from the 13 designers involved in the project. In the meanwhile, we also found some old, timeless modern patterns in our treasure chest to re-use.” Marie continues, “Tyg expresses the IKEA way 'You can do it' in a playful manner. We did our part as creators of this collection, and we invite you to continue the creation journey.”

With 20 pre-cut fabrics in vibrant colours and patterns, Tyg unlocks endless possibilities for personalisation, inviting individuals to enjoy being creative without feeling limited. By offering cheerful and graphic options for transforming spaces, IKEA encourages people to express their unique aesthetics and personalities.”

Textiles that are cared for, repaired, decorated, created, and recreated reflect one's individuality and values, capturing the true essence of home and self. Often, this process refreshes and breathes new life into existing items – there is no need for a complete replacement to welcome something new in your home.

Beyond inspiring individuals, Tyg also acts as a bridge for togetherness.

Tyg is all about togetherness. We want to celebrate the collective aspect of handcrafting – coming together, sharing interests and skills, and creating long-lasting relations. By highlighting the versatile medium of textiles, we hope to honour the rich traditions of sewing and quilting that unite across diverse cultures and encourage people to establish memorable bonds with their families, friends, and communities.

By introducing Tyg, IKEA continues to inspire and empower individuals to live more consciously and express themselves more bravely. Like a blank canvas waiting for a unique touch, it allows everyone the opportunity to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary.

Set to launch in select IKEA markets in July 2024, the Tyg collection features 16 long-term patterns, available for 24 months, along with 4 additional patterns supporting the seasonal drops in the second half of 2024. For product availability, please contact your local market.
