Horton’s Furniture Going Out of Business After 78 Years

Horton’s Furniture is going out of business after 78 years of serving Wichita and surrounding communities with quality home furnishings. Owners Steve Elpers and Dilman Morris will retire at the conclusion of the store’s final liquidation sale.

Leading furniture promotional sales specialists Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) is handling all going-out-of-business details and events.

“It is a great honor for PFP to steward this concluding phase of Horton’s Furniture and we are committed to ensuring that the final liquidation reflects the integrity of products and service for which the company has been known for nearly eight decades,” said Tom Liddell, senior vice president of PFP.

Since 1946, Horton’s Furniture has been a trusted home furnishings retailer able to serve all of Kansas with top quality products ranging from high-end pieces to value collections. Steve Elpers and Dilman Morris, owners of the beloved retail store for the last 26 years, take pride in the distinguished history and reputation of the business.

Horton’s Furniture was founded by Frank and Frances Horton in their hometown of Argonia, Kansas. The Hortons established their business as a friendly and welcoming place to shop for top quality furniture and always prioritized caring for their customers.

After 22 years in Argonia, Horton’s Furniture moved to Wichita where it continued to expand, quickly becoming one of Wichita’s largest furniture showrooms. Steve Elpers and Dilman Morris bought the company from the Hortons in 1997 and have since carried on their legacy of excellence.

“I am grateful to our loyal customers across the states of Kansas and Oklahoma for their patronage over the past 78 years,” said Elpers. “A special thanks to our exceptional staff for their dedication to making Horton’s Furniture a great shopping experience.”

Horton’s Furniture opens its going-out-of-business sale to the public on April 25. The 55,000-square-foot showroom is filled with a wide variety of high-quality furniture offered at exceptional prices. Famous name brands include Barcalounger, Best, Bassett, Craftmaster, Fjords, Howard Miller, Hooker, HomeStretch, King Hickory, La-Z-Boy, Pulaski, Serta, Simmons, and Vaughan-Bassett.
