IKEA Foshan Logistics Opens Distribution Center in South China

The opening ceremony of IKEA Foshan Logistics Distribution Center was held on Sept 1 in Gaoming District, Foshan City. The opening of the distribution center marked a new chapter for IKEA’s business layout in South China, and added another milestone on IKEA’s green logistics road in China.

Beginning in September this year, this distribution center will provide replenishment services to 9 IKEA stores in southern China, and beginning in April next year, it will provide services to 6 stores in Hong Kong, China and Macau, China.

Qiao Hua, managing director of IKEA Trading China, said, "The strategic location of the IKEA Foshan logistics distribution center will help us better serve the South China region, including IKEA stores in Hong Kong and Macau, and help shorten the delivery time. Improve supply capacity and further reduce logistics costs."

"This is also a vivid practice for us to continue to build a green supply chain. IKEA hopes to lead by example, convey sustainable concepts, and contribute to the green development of the logistics industry," Chen, president of IKEA Supply East Asia Hui said.

IKEA Foshan Logistics Distribution Center has a total construction area of about 80,000 square meters and incorporates advanced intelligent technology for operating efficiency. There is a 42-meter-high single-story fully automated high-bay warehouse.

In addition, IKEA combined the needs of the automatic control system with the logistics management process and adopted digital twin and visual simulation technology to realize the digital coverage and control of the whole process.

Adhering to IKEA's sustainable development concept of "benefiting to mankind and benefiting the earth," Foshan Logistics Distribution Center integrates green development into every detail, and the building as a whole is certified by the British Building Research Institute's green building assessment system.”

Renewable energy was taken into consideration from the outset of the design. There is a renewable energy system consisting of 4,000 photovoltaic modules, with an annual power generation of about 2 million kWh. The park is also equipped with charging parking spaces for electric trucks, using renewable energy to make road transportation electrified, and it is expected to meet up to 60% of the demand for inbound and outbound transport vehicles in the future.”

In addition, the roof of the Center is equipped with skylights in order to maximize the use of natural light. The ceiling is equipped with LED lighting daylight sensors to improve the energy efficiency of the facility. At the same time, all the forklifts used are powered by lithium-ion batteries, and a waste treatment system enables waste to be sorted and recycled again.”

Over the years, IKEA has been committed to building a trustworthy green supply chain in China. IKEA is committed to automation, innovation and sustainable development. In the future, IKEA Foshan Logistics Distribution Center will not forget its original intention, to continue to help the development of IKEA stores and suppliers and create a better daily life for the public.
