Klaussner Furniture Ceased Operations and Files WARN Act

As of August 7, Klaussner Home Furnishings ceased their operations. There is a state of unbelief in Asheboro, NC, the Piedmont Triad and rippling throughout the furniture industry. Over 880 people have been left unemployed with no prior warning.
According to the letter that was sent to employees on the same day they were informed they no longer had a job, “As the result of challenging and unexpected business circumstances impacting our operations, Klaussner Furniture Industries, Inc. and its direct and indirect subsidiaries (“Klaussner” or the “Company”) must unexpectedly wind down the Company’s operations.”
Their website echoes the same message with email addresses for former employees to Human Resources, their consumers for existing order and their retail partners and reps.
The move came abruptly without the required WARN Act filing. According to reporting on MSN, “by law, companies the size of Klaussner need to alert employees, city/county leaders, and the Department of Commerce before they close. This is to give everyone time to get resources in place for employment and unemployment benefits. The WARN Act requires 60 days’ notice, but that did not happen.”
The message from Klaussner continues, “As the result of challenging and unexpected business circumstances impacting our operations, Klaussner Furniture Industries, Inc. and its direct and indirect subsidiaries ("Klaussner" or the "Company") must unexpectedly wind down the operations.
Klaussner anticipates closing all of its facilities entirely, and that process is underway as of today, August 7, 2023.
Klaussner is working to provide information and resources to assist with next steps for displaced employees as it becomes available. This information will be communicated directly to employees via the contact information we have on file.”
