Overstock Bids for Bed, Bath & Beyond’s Intellectual Property

According to an article on Barron’s, Overstock.com is throwing its hat into the ring over Bed Bath & Beyond‘s remains. The online retailer submitted a $21.5 million offer for some of Bed Bath’s assets, including its intellectual property, mobile platform, business data, and marketing material.
The offer doesn’t include any of the company’s physical stores or Buybuy Baby, the company’s baby-oriented chain.
Since Bed Bath filed for bankruptcy in April, there have been questions over whether the company would be able to secure a buyer for some or all of its assets. The bid deadline had been extended several times as Bed Bath negotiated with the potential bidders that emerged in recent weeks.
Overstock’s (OSTK) offer will set the floor for any competing bids, which are due on Friday. The auction is expected to take place June 21.
