Wayfair Enters Indian Market with Technology Development Center

Wayfair, one of the world’s largest destinations for the home, announced its entry into the Indian market with the unveiling of its India Technology Development Centre (TDC) in Bengaluru.

This marks a significant milestone for Wayfair as it expands its operations into Asia and demonstrates the company’s commitment to establishing a strong technology presence in the region.

With ambitious plans to onboard 300 highly skilled technology employees in Bengaluru over the next year, Wayfair aims to tap into the extensive talent pool the city offers. As part of its ongoing global talent expansion, Wayfair has strategically established new TDCs in North America over the last year.

Building upon this success, the company is now venturing into India, targeting the recruitment of world-class tech professionals who can support Wayfair’s growing business. The available positions encompass a wide range of roles, including supply chain technology, website and native apps, offering exciting opportunities for individuals passionate about cutting-edge retail technology.

To lead the new Bengaluru TDC, Wayfair appointed Rohit Kaila as the Head of Technology and Site Leader for Wayfair in India. Responsible for Wayfair’s  India expansion, Rohit brings more than three decades of experience across brands.

He spent the last five years at Walmart Tech Global, which was marked by notable achievements and impactful contributions, including serving as the leader of Walmart’s US Technology organization and the International eCommerce organization.

Rohit Kaila, head of technology and site leader for Wayfair in India, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Bengaluru has earned a well-deserved reputation as India’s Silicon Valley, and our establishment of the TDC here will enable us to assemble a team of highly talented and experienced engineers.”

“With its abundant digital talent pool and prestigious educational institutions, Bengaluru stands out as our preferred choice. We eagerly anticipate our crucial role in driving world-class innovations by recruiting individuals who possess deep expertise in emerging technologies such as AI, ML, Data, Cloud, and more.”

Fiona Tan, chief technology officer at Wayfair, shared her excitement about the company’s significant presence in India, underscoring Bengaluru’s status as a thriving technology hub.

Tan emphasized the city’s distinguished reputation for technological prowess, which will serve as a catalyst for developing the necessary platforms, teams, and tools required to scale and adapt effectively during Wayfair’s transformative phase.

“World-class talent is key to our growth, and we are excited to be in Bengaluru with its rich network of technical talent,” said Tan. “Employees who join our Bengaluru office can expect to work in an entrepreneurial environment with freedom to innovate, with the benefits of being at an established company of over 20 years.”
