Walker Furniture Awards Teacher in Southern Nevada

Walker Furniture delivered brand new furniture and accessories for the teachers’ lounge at Silvestri Junior High School today thanks to a seventh grader’s submission letter.

Each year, Walker Furniture in cooperation with the Clark County School District Community Engagement Office gives students in Southern Nevada an opportunity to win new furnishings for their school’s teachers’ lounge by writing a letter describing their favorite teacher. 350 letters were submitted this year.

“This annual competition is rewarding and gratifying for everyone involved,” said Walker Furniture co-owner Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi and organizer of the Teacher Appreciation Day program.

“It provides students an opportunity to honor their teachers. We are reminded by their touching letters of the contributions and the sacrifices our teachers make and the impact their dedication has on the children in our community.”

This year, Silvestri Junior High School was the winner, thanks to a letter written by 7th grade student, Eliana Abramson. She is in Ms. Amanda Knatz’s class and wrote about how she goes beyond textbooks and motivates students with fun activities and intriguing projects.

For her outstanding letter, Abramson received $200 cash along with a certificate and Ms. Knatz a $250 Walker Furniture gift certificate.

In her letter to Walker Furniture, Abramson wrote in detail about Ms. Knatz’s style. “She makes learning interesting, connects with us, and guarantees success for each and every one of her students.

Abramson continues, “Ms. Knatz has always had a personal connection with her students and has proven to prioritize their emotional and mental necessities.”

Furniture items included sofa, loveseat, bookshelf, three pack of tables, tree, artwork, table décor and lamp.
