Design Within Reach Announces Winners of Champagne Chair Contest

Design Within Reach (DWR), the source for modern living, is thrilled to announce the winners of its 19th annual Champagne Chair Contest in partnership with Champagne Pommery. Contest participants were invited to create miniature models of either a chair in DWR’s product assortment or an original design using only the foil, cap, cage and cork from no more than two champagne bottles.

New this year, entrants who created a chair out of recycled, recovered or found plastic and the materials from no more than two champagne bottles were considered for the Slow Factory prize: An Eames Molded Plastic Armchair in recycled plastic.

In honor of the competition, the MillerKnoll Foundation donated a total of $25,000 to Slow Factory, a climate innovation hub addressing the intersecting crises of environmental justice and social inequity.

An esteemed jury reviewed this year’s exceptional entries, selecting two winners and two runners-up for Most Original and Best Likeness, as well as two winners for the Pommery Prize and the Slow Factory Prize. The six honorees include: Most Original, First Place Winner – Arinna Chair by Alison Brummer, Most Original, Runner Up – The CHAIRiot by Angelo Czar Manzano

Best Likeness, First Place Winner – Barcelona Sofa by Ryan Cole, Best Likeness, Runner Up – Wassily Chair by Britt Fleury.  The Pommery Prize – Sunball Chair by Aspen Vanhooser and The Slow Factory Prize – Contact Chair by Barbara Pschirer.
