Universal Furniture Hires New Vice-President of Sales for the West Region

Whole-home furnishings resource Universal Furniture has hired furniture industry veteran Jim Roberts as the vice-president of sales for the west region.

Roberts will focus on developing relationships with the retail and design communities and championing sales growth in the western U.S. He joins colleague A.J. Filloy, who serves as vice-president sales for the east region.

A graduate of Kennesaw State University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, Roberts began working in the furniture industry in college, selling furniture, rugs and bedding at the former Rich’s Department Store, now known as Macy’s. He continued working with the company after college, assuming the role of assistant buyer.

Roberts has also worked extensively in the mattress industry, including a stint with Tempur-Sealy International, where he began as a territory manager and eventually rose to ranks of vice president of sales.

He later worked in strategic planning and sales leadership roles at two industry suppliers, BekartDeslee and Nomaco. Roberts most recently worked for Serta Simmons bedding as senior vice president of sales.

“One of our goals at Universal Furniture is to put the right people in the right positions in order to guarantee their success and the success of the company,” said Universal Furniture President Sean O’Connor.

“Jim Roberts is a perfect fit for our growing company, thanks to his long tenure in the furniture industry, a dedication to excellence and appetite for adventure. We welcome him to Universal and look forward to his future success within the organization.”

An avid traveler and adventurer, Roberts has traveled to 36 countries over the years, including a trek to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. He enjoys volunteering with organizations including Hospice, the American Cancer Society and Victory Junction and spending time with his family.
