Recalls in Effect for Home and Furnishings Market for December 15

The first is that ESS Universal USA recalls mattresses due to violation of federal flammability standard for mattresses, thereby creating a fire hazard. The mattress is a Waterproof Foam Mattress, and were sold in twin, twin XL, and full sizes. The recalled mattresses have a blue cover with the ESS Universal logo featuring a gorilla picture and the words “ESS Universal” and “Comfort with Water Resistant Technology.” The inner lining is black. No federal labels were included with the mattresses as required.

The remedy for this recall is that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mattresses and contact ESS Universal to arrange for shipment of a cover with zipper for consumers to place over the foam core that will bring the mattresses into compliance, free of charge. ESS Universal USA is contacting all purchasers directly. The mattresses were sold between April 2021 and March 2022 for between $156 and $240.

There have been no reported injuries from this recall, and approximately 1,800 mattresses have been sold.

Additionally, Gabby Home has recalled their D-ring Fritz Mirrors for injury and laceration hazards. The ring and wire hanging mechanism can fail causing the mirror to detach and fall from the wall, posing injury and laceration hazards.

The gold and white round mirror measures 36 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep and 36 inches high. It is wrapped in a metal band of antique brass and inset with a ring of tightly woven, glossy faux white seagrass. Only D-Ring mirrors are included in this recall. Gabby Home, SCH-151480 and Made in Vietnam are printed on a label located on the back for the mirror.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Fritz mirror and contact Gabby for instructions on how to remove and dispose of the mirror for a free replacement mirror, including shipping. Consumers will be asked to submit a photo of the back of disposed product and certify that the product will no longer be used.

The firm has received seven reports of the mirror detaching and falling. No injuries have been reported. About 930 units have been sold at interior, design and home furnishing stores nationwide from Aug. 2016 through Dec. 2021 for between $900 and $1,100.
