From Home Furnishing Business

Pierce Home Furnishings Closing in Wisconsin after 70 Years

After 70 years in Brodhead and southern Wis., Pierce Home Furnishings began liquidation upon the retirement announcement of owner John Pierce.

The going-out-of-business sale began last month, managed by furniture promotional sales specialists Planned Furniture Promotions.

Pierce Home Furnishings was founded in 1952 by Pierce’s father, J. Burton "Jack" Pierce, and his uncle Dwight Pierce. Jack became the sole owner a few years later and was joined in the family business by John, his oldest son, in 1979.

“Our family business has been fortunate to have had the support of the families and communities here for 70 years. I thank them all and credit the business success to our long-time employees and a commitment to keeping the American dream alive with American-made products,” said Pierce.

In an interview with a local newspaper on the store's 60th anniversary in 2012, John said he always knew he would join his father in the family business, "He (Jack) let me learn the business and make mistakes as I went along. That was where I learned about managing people and managing the business. How to make the store look nice, how to deal with people, all of it."

The liquidation event features discounts of up to 65 percent on furniture across the store and includes Smith Bros, Ekornes Stressless, England, Howard Miller, La-Z-Boy, Comfort Sleep, Ashley, Decor-rest, Kincaid, Southern Motion, Cheers, Mayo, Dining Solutions, and Amish, among others.
