Report: Analyst Surprised Retail Furniture Prices Aren’t Falling Faster

An analyst for a research firm that closely monitors U.S. inflation trends says he was surprised when this week’s Consumer Price Index data showed that home furnishings and supplies rose 1.1 percent on a month-over-month basis, according to a story on Yahoo Finance.

Omair Sharif of the research firm Inflation Insights told the finance site it was a “bizarre dynamic” to see furniture prices remain so high.

“You would’ve thought that by now, three months after they’ve been telling you ‘Hey our inventories are too big,’ that this would have led to price declines and that just hasn’t happened,” he told the website.

Sharif said he thinks furniture retailers aren’t discounting as heavily as they’ve led the public to believe.
