Murphy Beds Recalled Following Reports of Beds Breaking, Detaching from Wall

Approximately 8,200 Murphy wall beds sold online by Amazon, Overstock and Wal-Mart have been recalled after Canadian manufacturer Cyme Tech received numerous reports of injuries caused by the beds breaking or detaching from the wall.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission, which is coordinating the recall with Cyme Tech, said consumers should stop using the beds immediately and contact Cyme Tech to arrange a free inspection and repair. Cyme Tech is also reaching out directly to known purchasers.

The recall involves full- and queen-size Murphy beds sold under the Ivy Bronx, Orren Ellis, Stellar Home Furniture, and Wade Logan brand names. They were sold between February 2014 and May 2022 for $1,200 to $1,500.

The CSPC said Cyme Tech had received 146 reports of the beds falling or breaking, including 62 reports of injuries. The injuries included broken bones, bruising, lacerations, and concussions.

Specific models included in the recall are Low Profile Murphy wall bed part numbers S214 (full size, doors installed vertically), S215 (queen size, doors installed vertically), S234 (full size, doors installed horizontally), and S235 (queen size, doors installed horizontally). The CPSC said consumers can identify whether their Murphy bed is included in this recall by checking their original online receipt of purchase for the brand name and part number or by contacting the firm.

Cyme Tech can be contacted toll free at 833-408-0501 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central time Monday through Friday, or by email at murphybed@realtimeresults.net.
