Jernigan Furniture Expands with 2nd Store in Smithfield, NC

Jernigan Furniture has announced the opening of a second store in Smithfield, North Carolina. An official Grand Opening ceremony with a ribbon cutting in front of the new Smithfield store was held on April 28 at 721 N. Brightleaf Blvd. Suite 7D – in the Pine Needle Square shopping center.

According to Jernigan, the new 20,000 square foot store with an attached 10,000 square foot warehouse will provide area residents with a wide selection of stylish accessories, beautiful home furnishings and mattresses that are all good quality and well built. The space sat vacant for three years after previously being occupied by a low-end furniture retail store.  Jernigan completely renovated the store, gutting it from the roofline all the way down to the concrete floor, nothing was left untouched.  Everything was built fresh including installing a new HVAC system.  Jernigan enlisted La-Z-Boy gallery designers to help with colors, layout, lighting tones, and lighting plan. The renovation was finished with the additional high-rise façade structures completed with stucco and stone to make Jernigan the prominent store in the shopping center.

Jernigan chose Smithfield as the city for their new store based on the ease of distribution from their central distribution hub, located in Goldsboro, and the proximity to target the exploding growth of the Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill DMA. Johnston County, where Smithfield is located, is the fastest growing county in the entire state of North Carolina. Jernigan chose the location in the Pine Needle Square shopping center because it is located on the busiest consumer street in Smithfield at the intersection of the two primary highways, 40 and 95.

The store features a La-Z-Boy Comfort Studio as well as upholstery from Flexsteel, Craftmaster, Smith Brothers of Berne, Hooker, and Huntington House; Amish crafted furniture by Mavin; case goods from Parker House, Hooker, Kincaid, American Drew, AAmerica and Hammary and mattresses from Kingsdown and Serta.

“Jernigan Furniture has a proud heritage of serving the furniture needs of Eastern North Carolina since our beginning in 1924 with our first store in Goldsboro,“ said Andrew Jernigan, owner of Jernigan Furniture. “After that store blew up in 1953, my grandfather Sam Sr. reopened the store in our current Goldsboro location and brought his two sons, Ed and Sam Jr. into the business with him.

“It is a privilege to help people love where they live,” says Jernigan. “As a family-owned furniture store we strive for the best in customer service. You come as a guest and leave as a member of the family, that’s why our motto is ‘A Sense of Family…A Sense of Home.’

“We are thrilled to expand to a second location to serve Smithfield and the surrounding area,” said Jernigan.

“With our highly professional and extremely knowledgeable team,” says Jernigan, “we feature the highest quality furniture and accessories the industry has to offer combined with the best design options and customer service you deserve. We would never sell anything we wouldn't put in our own home.

“People will find a lot to love in Jernigan Furniture’s wide selection of on-trend styles,” says Jernigan. “From industrial, to farmhouse and traditional, the look you love can be found in our Jernigan Furniture stores.”
