Diamond Mattress has announced the appointment of bedding veteran Craig McAndrews to president. Current president, Shaun Pennington, will transition to chief executive officer.
McAndrews will step into the role of president starting May 18 and oversee the day-to-day operations of the 80-year-old manufacturing business with facilities in California and Texas. He will report to Pennington who moves into a new role for the company.
He also will work closely with Breana Pennington who retains her role as vice president with expanded responsibility of integrating operations across Diamond’s family of brands and overseeing the California factory, as Pennington and McAndrews will be based in Texas.
“With Craig, Diamond gains an industry leader with broad and deep knowledge, hands-on experience and a proven success record in retail sales and strategy, that will help shape our company as we continue driving the strongest period of growth in Diamond’s history,” said Pennington.
McAndrews has spent 25 years in the bedding industry and has served powerhouses Simmons Bedding Co. and Mattress Firm. During his tenure at Mattress Firm, he served as chief merchandising officer overseeing product selection, design and selling strategy for the organization. He also played a key role in acquisition integrations and designing the company growth plans as the chief strategy officer. He’s co-founded and led businesses in retail, sales consulting and leadership development. Most recently, he was a professor at the University of Houston Bauer College of Business where he taught and inspired the next generation of top sales performers and leaders.
“The Diamond Mattress team has done an amazing job of creating a great culture, producing fantastic products and building a business that emphasizes service. I’m fired up about the opportunity to return to the industry with a company continuously investing in growth of its people and business,” said McAndrews.
Pennington said his move to CEO will allow him to use his strengths to implement the company vision, culture and “big ideas,” and to focus on future growth strategies and key customer relationships.
