Walker Furniture Marks 30th Mattress Delivery for Project Firehouse Program

Walker Furniture completed its “Project Firehouse: Rested & Ready” program to provide all 30 Clark County Firehouses with new mattresses.

The program was started in October 2018 and entered a year-long hiatus in 2020 due to the pandemic. This week Walker Furniture delivered four new mattresses and box springs to Firehouse Station 31, which marked the 30th and final delivery.

“For Walker, our ‘Rested & Ready’ firehouse project is our way of helping our first responders,” said Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi, Walker Furniture co-owner. “Providing mattresses for our hardworking firefighters, who are constantly on call, is our way of showing appreciation.”

Mattresses for our firefighters are of the utmost importance. The ones being replaced are very old and the firefighters are always excited when the new ones arrive. They have the old ones stacked and ready to go when the Walker Furniture truck arrives. With overwhelming appreciation, they grab the new mattresses and set them up.

“Rest is so important for our first responders, health and wellbeing,” said Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney. “Their job is not nine-to-five. Firefighters need to be ready to respond. Imagine every day and night at any given minute when you’re sleeping, you need to abruptly wake up, run your fastest and perform your best.”

Prior to the pandemic, deliveries were expected to take about two-and-a-half years to complete. Ultimately the timetable took three-and-a-half years.
