Design Pavilion Announces 5th Annual Public Design Exhibition in May

New York City’s premier public design exhibition Design Pavilion is scheduled for May 7-17, 2022. The 5th annual 9-day event, entitled ‘Open to the Sky,’ will take over iconic public spaces around New York City with pertinent and inspiring artful structures by a curated group of the world’s most illustrious architects, designers, makers and artists.

“Through our current challenges, we are all reconsidering every aspect of our lives, work and environments. The Design Pavilion is responding boldly with a true desire to help humanity,” says Ilene Shaw, founding producer of Design Pavilion and Design Talks NOW. “Design Pavilion gives opportunity to progressive companies, forward-thinking designers, architects, artists and schools, to address the public directly with their design messages. We welcome brilliant and courageous thinkers to share their explorations and solutions and open to the sky.”

Design Pavilion is the public cornerstone of New York City’s May design festivities. As a free, public-facing exhibition, Design Pavilion attracted an audience of over 4.5 million in 2019 before postponement due to the pandemic. Design Pavilion works in collaboration with NYCxDESIGN, the City’s official design festival. In 2022, Design Pavilion will engage with business districts including Times Square, Fifth Avenue and Flatiron.

Aligned with Design Pavilion’s Open to the Sky citywide exhibition, Design Talks NOW 2022 will present its ‘Visionary Series on Courage’ and daily Talks on “Functional Solutions x Design – Regeneration, Technology, Humanity.” This new series of provocative conversations, roundtable and panel discussions will commence in February partnered with Neuehouse New York. Complementary programming and events will also be presented and organized around the citywide exhibitions.
