Jim Cherry Retires from Legends Furniture

Industry veteran, Jim Cherry, senior vice president of sales for Legends Furniture, will be retiring at the end of the year. He will be attending the Las Vegas winter market in January to say farewell to the many friends he has made in the industry over the years.

Cherry has been the backbone of Legends Furniture for over 30 years. He started working with founder Rick Schmidgall in 1990. Since then, the company has seen 31 years of continuous growth.

Referring to his upcoming retirement Cherry said, “it’s been a long, great ride and I will miss everyone I’ve met over the years.” He plans to travel and spend more time with his extended family in the Phoenix area.

Cherry will be succeeded by Tim Donk, Legends’ current director of marketing and business development. Donk has been involved with Legends in one way or another since the beginning. He was one of the company’s earliest dealers. “Rick and Jimmy delivered my first Legends order themselves in what looked like a homemade trailer,” Donk said. Donk then went on to become an independent rep and of course, Legends was in his bag. In 2004 Donk started working directly for Legends in marketing and product development. “I know this company and it’s wonderful culture well. I’ll do everything I can to preserve what Rick and Jimmy built, for both our customers and our employees”.

A retirement party, originally scheduled for Jan. 22 during Las Vegas Market, has been postponed due to the current rise in COVID cases.
