HOM Golf Outing Raises $300K for Drug, Alcohol Recovery Program

Minnesota-based HOM Furniture’s said its 31st annual HOM Open Charity Golf Tournament raised more than $300,000 for Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge (MNATC), a faith based recovery program for people of all ages struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

More than 128 golfers participated in this year’s event, held on August 19 at the  Majestic Oaks Golf Course, in Ham Lake, Minnesota.

“This is one of our favorite days of the year,” said Rod Johansen, president and CEO, HOM Furniture. “it’s amazing to see so many of our local and industry partners supporting an important cause. We were fortunate to be able to have our tournament this year. We decided when we began planning last year that we would do a smaller than normal event as we ease back into normalcy with limited participants on a single golf course versus our normal use of both the Crossroads and the Signature courses at Majestic Oaks with over 300 participants.”

This sunny day began with driving range warm ups, burgers & brats to go and the kick off to the tournament with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem, performed by the MNATC Choir in front of excited golfers. The afternoon concluded with dinner, prizes and a 2021 re-cap from Pastor Rich Scherber, executive director of MNATC, along with two MNATC students sharing their life stories. Scherber described how the HOM Open has been an important part in the new women’s facility Freedom Manor, a place to find a full continuum of care for women ranging from outpatient services to residential treatment, transition planning and aftercare.

Over the past 31 years, the HOM Open Charity Golf Tournament has raised over $5M for charities in our communities. This tournament has grown from a small golf tournament into an industry event that welcomes leaders, employees, family members, and friends to come out and show their support every year; with August 18, 2022 marking the 32nd HOM Open event.
