HSM Expands Pocketed Coil and InnerRest Production

Responding to mattress producers’ increasing needs for alternatives to foam and rising consumer preference for hybrid mattresses, Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company (HSM) has installed new equipment at its bedding business facility in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to produce its InnerRest pocketed-coil line, a new capability for the site.
In addition, HSM has relocated some of its existing Micro pocketed-coil equipment to its bedding business facility in Phoenix, Arizona, enabling HSM’s bedding business to produce that product line for the first time in the western part of the country.
Combined with existing capabilities for both product lines on the East Coast in Hickory, the moves expand the company’s national manufacturing footprint, allowing it to better serve its customers across the U.S.
“With the ongoing shortage of foam and rising prices that continue to impact the industry, we have seen a tremendous uptick in demand for our pocketed coils, which provide our customers with an alternative solution, while providing the same – or even better – level of performance,” said Tim Witherell, vice president of bedding at HSM. “With the addition of InnerRest production at our Sheboygan plant and the Micro product line in Phoenix, we have further strengthened our ability to meet the need for pocketed coils from our customers nationwide.
“Even prior to the supply issues the industry is currently facing, the product lines were in high demand,” he added. “With consumers still looking to upgrade their bedding to improve the quality of their sleep, consumer preference for pocketed coil and hybrid mattress construction has been on the rise. The products’ ability to contour to the shape of the body offers pressure relief benefits to the back, neck, shoulders and hips – a key feature consumers seek when looking to improve the quality of their sleep.”
HSM’s InnerRest coil unit is made with the company’s True Motion Separation technology, which consists of centrally glued, ultrasonically encapsulated coils that dissipate motion, thus reducing partner disturbance during sleep.
The Micro line includes the Micro Comfort Layer, which consists of coils ranging from three-quarters of an inch to 1.5 inches; and the Micro Duo, a coil-within-a-coil system. Both products are made with coil counts that go as high as 5,000 for a queen-sized mattress, and both can be customized into a variety of configurations that create comfort and support zones for specific areas of the body, along with enhancing airflow for a cooler night’s sleep.
