Kuka Home Expands Monterrey, Mexico Facility
June 30,
2021 by Laurie Northington in Business Strategy, Industry
One year after the opening of its Monterrey, Mexico factory, leather upholstery producer Kuka Home has completed a major expansion that will increase production by more than 45%.
The facility opened on June 18, 2020 to continue the company’s mission to become a global leader in the upholstery industry. In addition to its five facilities in China, the manufacturing footprint now includes this Monterrey plant, a vertically integrated mattress factory, also in Monterrey, and two new locations in Vietnam.
To shorten lead times and increase production capacity, we saw the need for a North American factory that focuses on special orders delivering in 3-4 weeks. After commitments from a few of our partners, we have been delivering special order upholstery groups, accent chairs and fully upholstered beds, for one year now. As demand out of this facility increased, Kuka Home made the decision to double the size of its factory. We are currently investigating the possibility for further expansion in 2022.
On June 18, a grand opening ribbon cutting event was held to celebrate thee special occasion. Kuka Home’s general manager for the North America division, Berton Chen, Mexican government officials, management from the North American division, factory workers and customers attended the event.
“I’m very excited about the growth strategies our team has been able to implement since the original Chinese tariffs were put in place,” said Matt Harrison, president, Kuka Home North America. “We remain committed to cutting lead times and providing a larger global footprint to better serve our customers.”
