Surya Donates $100K for COVID-19 Relief in India

Rug and home major Surya has teamed up with non-profit humanitarian organization Sewa International to help obtain medical equipment and distribute supplies to hospitals, institutions, and individuals battling the devastating second wave of COVID-19 in India.

Sewa International, based in Houston, Texas with local chapters across the United States, specializes in disaster recovery, education, and development. The organization is committed to supporting the healthcare and medical infrastructure in India during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Hospitals in India are struggling to keep up with the surge in COVID-19 cases as the country reports more than 350,000 new cases a day. Surya’s donation will primarily be used to help with the continued acquisition and deployment of oxygen concentrators and other emergency medical equipment to hospitals, government, and NGO COVID-19 care centers across India. In addition, the funds will help support the efforts of a team of 200+ volunteers working for Sewa’s digital helpdesk providing critical information on vaccination drives, ambulance services, hospital bed availability, and blood and medicinal supplies to people all over the country.

“The COVID-19 situation in India is dire. With almost one million new cases every three days, and thousands of lives lost daily, help is desperately needed,” said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya. “As a company deeply rooted in India, we feel it is our responsibility to do our part to help mitigate this tragic situation.”
