Walker Furniture has announced furniture delivery for the 27th Home of the Holidays has resumed, following a pause to the program due to extra safety COVID-19 precautions.
Due to the severity of the pandemic, Walker Furniture made deliveries to 11 families prior to the Christmas Holiday, these letters were submitted by community partners who knew each situation firsthand. The deadline for the remaining nomination letters was extended. Those deliveries to the remaining 24 families or individuals began on March 25.
“The ‘Home For The Holidays’ program involves volunteers from Helping Hands of Vegas Valley reading all the letters and sending expertly trained staff to make home visits to identify and evaluate the nominated family’s genuine need,” said Larry Alterwitz, owner. “This process is labor intensive, and we believed it would have been problematic subjecting volunteers and families to the virus in December, so we waited to resume deliveries this spring.”
Though it’s not the holiday season, furniture will help brighten days for more families since most are without beds, dressers, couches, dining table and chairs. Community partners Star Nursery, The Las Vegas Rescue Mission and Helping Hands of Vegas Valley also provide gifts and services to all the families.
“While the past pandemic year has been hard for everyone, some folks need an extra hand up and we’re in the furniture business,” said Alterwitz, “It brings us joy to be able to help make their lives somewhat better.”
