Interior Design Society and Sustainable Furnishings Council Partner for Sustainable Design Award

The Interior Design Society (IDS) and Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) have once again collaborated for the Sustainable Design Designer of the Year Award. After working together for several years, IDS and SFC are expanding on their partnership to include other initiatives to educate the home furnishings industry on how to use and feature sustainable products in their businesses.

The Sustainable Design Award was established to recognize designers who create high quality, environmentally conscious spaces, and encourages designers to #getyourgreenon. Winning designs take into consideration the principles of social, economic and ecological sustainability ensuring that the design does not leave a negative impact on our environment.

Last years’ Sustainable Award winner, Michelle Rohrer-Lauer of Michelle’s Interiors, created a stunning design featuring bio-degradable products, materials made from recycled plastics, furniture made of FSC – certified wood and more.

Members of IDS and SFC are eligible to enter their projects beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021, and there will be a 20% discount offered on all submissions through March 3rd.

Leading up to the award submission period, there will be a Sustainability Essentials webinar offered to interior designers and industry professionals who are interested. The CEU course, “What is Sustainable Furniture Anyway,” will cover what sustainability issues are impacted as choices are made in our furnishings. Participants will come away with key questions to ask and answers to look for as they specify product, whether furnishings or accessories, in wood, leather, textiles, etc. This educational webinar will provide important knowledge to those who are interested in applying for the Sustainable Design, #getyourgreenon award this year.
