Pleasant Mattress Taps Carter Gronbach as New President

Independent West Coast bedding manufacturer Pleasant Mattress has named 30-year industry veteran Carter Gronbach as its new president.

Gronbach will focus on the company’s day-to-day operations working to incorporate key efficiencies throughout the company. Gronbach reports to Chief Executive Officer Rion Morgenstern.

“Being able to bring someone of Carter’s caliber on board will help propel Pleasant Mattress to a new level of productivity and efficiency and bring a more global view to our operations to better meet the needs of our customers,” Morgenstern said. “His expansive experience with leading bedding brands provides us with keen insights and will be a huge asset to our operation. With Carter coming aboard to focus on day-to-day operations, I will have more time to focus on strategy and planning for the company.”

Prior to joining Pleasant Mattress, Gronbach spent more than three years as executive vice president of operations at Visionary Sleep, Restonic’s largest licensee, where he oversaw the company’s operations.

Previously, he was vice president of manufacturing of Brentwood Home and oversaw manufacturing and operations for the direct-to-consumer e-commerce retailer. Prior to that, Gronbach was regional vice president of operations for Serta Simmons Bedding in the West overseeing up to 14 plants and worked with them in various roles for 21 years. In addition, Gronbach was a Sealy plant superintendent from 1993 until 1995, and he started his career in the bedding industry in 1990 as a product manager for Sealy Flotation.

“Rion and his senior team have built Pleasant into a super-regional player in the mattress space that has so much potential for growth. I am excited to be a part of this team and bring my operational experience to bear for the benefit of our customers,” Gronbach said.

Gronbach received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from The University of California – Irvine. He lives in the Fresno, California, area with his wife.
