OMI Marks 15 Years with Greenguard Gold Certification

Organic mattress producer OMI has announced its 15th year of Greenguard Gold certification in 2021. The certification demonstrates that OMI mattresses are independently tested and certified to meet rigorous standards for chemical emissions and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
The company, who was the first to manufacture a mattress to be certified to the standard, has continued to manufacture Greenguard Gold certified mattresses since 2006 making it the longest consecutive running mattress company to manufacture Greenguard Gold certified products, certified by UL, a global safety science leader.
The certification demonstrates to consumers that OMI’s certified-organic mattresses meet UL’s stringent standard for low emissions, VOCs and pollutants, to help ensure indoor air quality and contribute to a healthful home environment.
“More and more consumers today are concerned with health and wellness. As such, they are turning to brands that provide meaningful assurances through relevant certifications including Greenguard Certification. We are very proud to have been the first to certify our mattresses to the Greenguard Gold standard and organic standards, and to have maintained our certifications throughout the years,” said Jeff Bader, chief executive officer of OMI. “Greenguard Certification is obtained through standardized testing performed by UL, where scientists measure amounts of chemical emissions which off gas from tested products.”
A study earlier this year conducted by IBM and the National Retail Federation showed that nearly 70 percent of consumers in North America are searching for sustainable or eco-friendly products. OMI mattresses are Greenguard Gold Certified and certified organic.
Recognized and referenced by more than 400 codes, rating systems and procurement policies worldwide, the Greenguard Certification program requires products meet some of the most rigorous standards for low emissions of VOCs into indoor environments. OMI manufactured the first mattress to be tested and Greenguard Certified, and they accomplished this within three years of the company’s founding in 2003. OMI is one of the only U.S. mattress manufacturers committed exclusively to the production and sale of certified organic mattresses and bedding. Mattresses are made in the USA, at OMI’s Eco Factory in Northern California. OMI’s crib mattresses also carry the certification.
