Bob’s Discount Furniture has announced a donation of $280,000 to food pantries and hunger-relief programs within its markets throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Southwest and West Coast.
Local organizations near each of the 135 Bob’s Discount Furniture stores and 5 distribution centers will receive a $2,000 donation from the furniture retailer.
“During this season of giving, we are excited to support food pantries in our communities for the seventh year in a row,” said Bob Kaufman, president emeritus and co-founder of Bob’s Discount Furniture. “This time of year can be a challenge for those families struggling to put food on the table. This year in particular, we understand the challenges many are facing and we’re hoping these donations help provide meals to those in need during this holiday season.”
Throughout the year, the Bob’s Discount Furniture Charitable Foundation supports many children and youth service organizations. As the holidays approach, the retailer will spread its charitable arm to support those in need, providing necessary funds to local food pantries in the fight to end hunger.
"As we continue to navigate the pandemic, we're mindful that those we serve will be among the last to recover from the economic devastation felt by so many. We're serving up to 4 times as many families as we were pre-COVID. At the same time, food costs have increased 15-20% since last summer. The $2,000 received will be put to immediate use and will help provide 10,000 meals to hungry Hoosiers," said John Elliott, president and CEO, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, a benefactor of Bob’s donation.
