Gift for Life Text-to-Give Campaign Raises $7K for Dallas Women’s Center

Gift for Life, the gift and home industries' charitable organization has announced its third annual Text-to-Give campaign raised nearly $7,000 for A Sister’s Gift Women’s Center (ASG), the first stand-alone HIV/AIDS agency in Dallas serving women (aged 13+) and their families impacted by HIV/AIDS with counseling, peer support programs, food assistance and transportation.

The text-to-give campaign ran in connection with Gifts & Decorative Accessories’ 69th annual Retailer Excellence Awards, which were held virtually on August 6. Donations, which ranged from $25 to $1,500, funded transportation to medical appointments, hygiene products, food baskets for families and in-take and group counseling sessions.

“Thirty individuals and industry organizations donated through this text-to-give campaign,” said Matthew Katzenson, chair of the Gift for Life board. “We were delighted that such a great cross-section of our industry could make such a big difference in the lives of individuals whose lives are impacted by HIV/AIDS.”

A Sister’s Gift Women’s Center (ASG) is a community based non-profit 501(c)3 agency which serves females (aged 13 and up) and their families living with or impacted by HIV/AIDS. Its mission is to proactively identify HIV positive females and provide them with supplemental resources to enhance and prolong their quality of life and create community awareness to prevent the spread of the disease. Over 95% of ASG’s clients live below the poverty guidelines and 70% are in poor health.

“Thank you to Gift for Life for this generous donation. It comes at a time when our client needs exceed our funding capacity as funding channels have slowed due to COVID-19,” said Cheryl Edwards, CEO and founder of A Sister’s Gift. “With this timely support, we can continue to serve our community with an important series of non-duplicated services. This is so important for our clients, and on behalf of them and our Board of Directors we are sincerely grateful.”

Gift for Life unites the gift and home industries against AIDS with nearly $6 million raised since its inception in 1992. In 2008, Gift for Life selected DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service and education programs in the U.S., as its main charity partner. Since its founding in 1984, DIFFA has mobilized the immense resources of the design communities to provide more than $46 million to hundreds of AIDS organizations nationwide.
