Annual HOM Open Golf Tournament Raises over $150K for Minnesota Adult Teen Challenge

After vendors and sponsors saved the retailer HOM’s annual golf tournament from cancellation due to Covid 19, the 2020 HOM Open took place on Tuesday, August 25 at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, and raised over $150,000 in funds.

“Kyle Johansen, our executive director of merchandising came to me and said we have vendors that want to continue to contribute to make a difference in the lives of Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge during this pandemic, can we put on a smaller more socially safe tournament this year?,” said Rod Johansen, president/CEO.  “We listened and put together 6 teams to compete in a new format for the 31st Annual HOM Open Golf Tournament.”.

“It’s one of our favorite days of the year,” remarked Kyle, “it’s rewarding to see so many of our local and industry partners wanting to support an important cause especially during a pandemic.  We feel grateful to be able to provide a safe place to hold our tournament and continue the tradition. After 31 years, it has become a part of our HOM Furniture culture.”

The day began with putting, driving and a grab and go lunch on the practice facility, followed by  18 holes of golf and dinner. After dinner there was a Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge (MNATC) re-cap from Pastor Rich Scherber, executive director of MNATC.  Scherber, went onto describe how the funds being raised by the HOM Open 2020 will help the new Women’s facility being renovated in the old Harriet Tubman Building. Over the past 31 years, the HOM Open Charity Golf Tournament has raised a total of over $3.1 million dollars for charities in our communities.
