SFC’s Webinar to Focus on Environmental and Racial Justice as Part of Sustainability Essentials Series

The Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) will present Environmental Justice: Why it Matters for its monthly Sustainability Essentials webinar series on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 12 p.m. EST.

Panelists and newly named SFC Ambassadors Thom Filicia, Libby Langdon, and Corey Damen Jenkins join moderator Erika Heet, Interiors magazine Editor-in-Chief, to discuss environmental and racial justice, and to illuminate the value of industry participation in finding solutions.

The webinar will highlight each leading designer's perspective on the impact from and potential for the home furnishings industry - exploring topics like the true cost of "cheap" products to communities and the environment - along with the role it plays in serving and healing.

Participants will review how the furnishings industry is linked to a long list of challenges regarding the sustenance of a healthy future such as deforestation, unmitigated use of harmful chemicals, forced labor, and waste proliferation, to name a few.

This webinar is a part of the SFC’s JUST ONE campaign, developed to inspire participants to take regular actions toward achieving corporate sustainability goals.

“We invite all in the furniture industry to learn how even small steps taken will lead to meaningful outcomes,” says Susan Inglis, SFC executive director. “Our work is to educate, and also to communicate opportunities. Industrywide, we encourage leadership needed for establishing a more ecological and egalitarian model in the pursuits of environmental and racial justice.”

The webinar is open to all industry professionals, including product manufacturers, retailers, designers, suppliers, transportation and logistics companies. Attendees may register here for the free event.
