Sustainable Furnishings Council Announces CEU Eligible Webinar Sponsored by ASID
June 24,
2020 by Jane Chero in Business Strategy, Designer Weekly, Industry
The online event is moderated by SFC Executive Director Susan Inglis, and features guest panelists Steve Freeman of Room & Board, Kathryn Richardson of Libeco, and Beverly McAuley of Moore & Giles. Participants are eligible to receive .1 CEU with the International Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC), designation HSW Sustainability.
Interior designers will learn about the core tenets of sustainable design and how materials used to make consumer products account for 80 percent or more of their environmental impact.
A review of enduring product selections for interior design projects will illustrate how these choices will benefit the global environment over time, as longer life-cycles for products equate to a reduced need for natural resources.
Additional benefits include waste reduction; for example, when leather hides are sourced from the beef industry. Or, how the ability to discern wood qualities may help to keep inferior items out of landfills.
The panel of experts will address how sustainable product choices additionally help to limit environmental exposure to harmful pollutants, such as agrochemicals used for crops like cotton.
“Interior designers are on the front lines with consumers of furnishings,” says Inglis. “Our webinar gives them the facts they need to talk through sustainable product options with their clients, along with the confidence to communicate why it matters.”
The webinar is open to all industry professionals. Attendees may register here for the free event.
