Southerland Announces Partnership with Mattress Today

Independent mattress producer Southerland has announced its expansion in Washington, Idaho and Nevada through a new retail partnership with Mattress Today, an independently owned, up-and-coming retailer that sells mattresses in its stores by appointment.

The growing 10-store chain has brought in a 16-model collection of Southerland’s mid- to upper-tier designs as its cornerstone product to its American-made lineup.

With a strict focus on American-made products, Mattress Today turned to Southerland as one of its three vendors. The Mattress Today stores are being serviced by Southerland’s factory in Tualatin, Oregon, which the company acquired last year.

“We’re excited to add Mattress Today to our list of retail partners,” said Bryan Smith, president and chief executive officer of Southerland. “With its focus on domestic-made products and attention to customer service, the Mattress Today team’s ethos falls in step with our corporate beliefs. We look forward to growing our reach throughout the Northwest and beyond with them as strong partners.”

Headquartered in Washington, Mattress Today stores are located throughout the state, and new stores recently opened in Boise, Idaho, and in Las Vegas. The company has an ambitious growth strategy in place with plans to open 100 stores in the next four years. In the ever-changing landscape of bedding retailer, Mattress Today’s unique by-appointment-only business model allows for a private, less crowded shopping experience – a positive attribute during this year’s COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our partnership with Southerland has been seamless. We were attracted to the brand’s consistent feel, quality, its cooling technologies and the overall product selection, but what sealed the deal for us was the ability for us to make the product our own,” said Joel Summers, co-founder of the Mattress Today. “In working closely with the Southerland team to create subtle product changes, we were able to set our merchandising apart and carved out a competitive niche, and since adding the line to our floors, we’ve seen a $400 increase in our AUSP.”

Building on Southerland’s family of brands that includes Scandinavian, ThermoBalance, Heritage and Evolution, Mattress Today worked with the company’s sales and merchandising teams to incorporate specific features and benefits.

Mattress Today retails Southerland mattresses from $775 to $2,350 for queen sets and also sells three of the company’s InMotion power adjustable bed bases.

“We care about what we sell and the quality of the beds we offer our customers,” said Jeremy Brown, co-founder of Mattress Today. “Working closely with Southerland allows us to provide our customers the best mattresses at very competitive prices.”
