The Specialized Furniture Carriers division of the American Home Furnishings Alliance has canceled its 2020 Logistics Conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting scheduling conflicts within the home furnishings industry.
The group’s next conference, titled “Navigating Into the Future,” will be held June 14-16, 2021, at the Embassy Suites Wilmington Riverfront in Wilmington, N.C.
In April, the Specialized Furniture Carriers announced it was moving its 2020 conference from mid-June to the end of August in response to ongoing stay-at-home orders in many states due to COVID-19. However, shortly after the new August 31 to September 2 event was announced, International Market Centers released new dates for the summer Las Vegas Market directly overlapping the rescheduled Logistics Conference.
“A quick poll of our membership indicated that the Las Vegas Market conflict created an insurmountable obstacle for the success of the 2020 Logistics Conference,” said Mary O’Keeffe, executive director of the Specialized Furniture Carriers. “Our leadership team determined that devoting attention to developing a vibrant 2021 conference was the best course of action.”
The program for the 2021 “Navigating Into the Future” conference is under development and will include timely new sessions on managing logistics during a nationwide crisis. In addition, key speakers from the canceled 2020 program already have confirmed their participation in the 2021 event, including Courtney Banghart, head coach of the University of North Carolina women’s basketball program, and retired Navy SEAL Thom Shea, whose 2019 conference keynote on leadership was highly rated among last year’s attendees.
