Hooker Furniture (NASDAQ: HOFT) has received approval from the U.S. Patent Office for patent protection of its top-selling Savion Power Reclining Upholstery collection, effective May 19.
The patent will cover the novel aspects of multiple configurations of the Savion collection including a sectional, 2-seat and 3-seat sofas, love seat and a stand-alone chair. The Savion combines traditional Chesterfield button-tufted styling with a low-profile silhouette and offers an adjustable headrest in every seating unit and power recline function in the end units and chair.
“The Savion collection has been an important part of Hooker Upholstery’s significant growth in the last year,” said Jeremy Hoff, president of Hooker Legacy Brands. “The design is distinct in that the adjustable headrest and power reclining functions are virtually invisible. The upscale fashion styling and exceptional comfort is front and center, and the motion features are an unexpected value-added component.”
Noting that achieving patent protection for furniture designs is rare, Hoff said, “Hooker Furniture has worked to develop and encourage a culture of innovation, and the distinct aspects of the Savion are a great example of the results of these efforts.”
Hoff added, “Having patent protection in place for the Savion Collection enables us to protect the design from any infringement if necessary.”
