Polywood Marks Earth Day with Renewed Commitment to the Planet’s Health

Sustainable outdoor furniture manufacturer Polywood is marking today’s 50th anniversary of Earth Day by restating its commitment to turn one million pounds of ocean-bound plastic into furniture by 2021 and encouraging its customers to take an active role in protecting the planet.

“Understandably, the focus lately hasn’t been so much on the health of the planet — but instead, on the health of the people who inhabit it,” said Brady Maller, EVP of Strategy and Sales at Polywood. “However, just like we’re figuring out with the current virus, everyone can make a difference. Educating others, picking up trash, recycling, planting more greenery, using fewer products around the house — all of these actions can make a meaningful difference if we engage in them together.”

Per the Earth Day site, the theme for the 50th anniversary is climate action. Climate change has been recognized as the most pressing topic and concern, underscoring many other issues plaguing the world today. The first Earth Day is credited with launching the modern environmental movement and is now recognized as the planet’s largest civic event, in which Polywood is honored to take part.

In addition to encouraging Earth-friendly acts, the company is conducting an Earth Day sales promotion in acknowledgment of this global initiative, as well as continuing its promotion of ocean-bound plastics recycling throughout 2020.

“Polywood was born from a sustainability movement during the Keep America Beautiful era,” said Doug Rassi, CEO and co-founder of Polywood. “Stewardship was in our collective consciousness. It motivated us to start our company and is embedded in our culture. The thoughts and activities around sustainability today aren’t something we added recently as it became popular. It has been part of our purpose from the start.”
