Philadelphia native and design specialist Jimmy DeLaurentis, offers hope that after spending weeks inside their homes due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the market for interior design services and home furnishings will surge as consumers will look to upgrade their interior spaces. In addition to his interior design practice, DeLaurentis is founder of JAMES by Jimmy DeLaurentis, a private label collection of luxurious upholstery, pet beds and candles.
“Home has never been more important than it is today. While the timeframe of how long we’ll all be practicing social distancing is unclear, one thing is for certain: our homes have become an even more central part of our lives and we have found greater appreciation for our living spaces,” he said. “I am already hearing from clients, who after spending weeks at home – which have now become their offices, their classrooms and their social outlets – that those living spaces need to be freshened up.
“While I’m doing more of my design work remotely these days, I’m still communicating with my clients via emails, phone calls and FaceTime. And, while that will never replace face-to-face meetings, where we can look a floorplans and fabrics and finishes together, it still allows us to continue to proceed through this with purpose,” he continued.
“Even beyond my clients, I’ve been hearing from friends, family and colleagues that they are cleaning out their closets and taking a second look at their old living room furniture. Perhaps – when the dust settles – it will be time for an upgrade and a fresh start.”
