IMC’s TrendWatch to Showcase Key Themes in Home Furnishings at Spring High Point Market

IMC’s TrendWatch will feature three directional themes – Meadow, Penthouse and Aviary – at the Spring High Point Market, April 25 –29, 2020. The signature program illustrates leading home furnishings trends through an opening day seminar, three curated vignettes, a product tour and an at-Market publication.

TrendWatch is curated by magazine editor and home furnishings forecaster Julie Smith Vincenti of Nine Muses Media. The trends are influenced by consumer insights and creative intelligence from the interiors, fashion and consumer product arenas.

“This season’s three TrendWatch themes showcase top home furnishings trends at the start of the new year and a new decade,” explains Smith Vincenti. “In Penthouse, neutrals dominate, while texture, finishing and form create intrigue; Aviary aligns abstract patterns with bird motifs and patterns for a look that’s both airy and sophisticated; and Meadow charms with an Insta-worthy landscape dotted with warm neutrals and quaint patterns.”

The three trends identified for Spring 2020 TrendWatch are:

Meadow

Small-scale florals, warm neutrals, and hand-crafted embellishments thrive in Meadow, a serene space that evokes prairieland dotted with wildflowers. The mood is quaint and romantic yet travels effortlessly to a metropolitan landscape. In Meadow, we connect with nature — and the picturesque posts we upload seem to validate our effort. Product selections will include furnishings in all categories, including fabric and leather upholstery, as well as accent furniture in warm neutrals, whipstitch detailing, charming fabrics, small-scale florals, embroidery, natural finishes, hair-on hide and faux sheepskin.

Penthouse

The decade opens with renewed interest in neutrals, especially luxurious interpretations that emphasize finishing and form. Sparkle and shine meet sophisticated curation in TrendWatch’s Penthouse. Merchandise selections will include furnishings in all product categories, especially designs that showcase warm and cool metallic finishes; pearlescent effects; intriguing and tactile textures, including upper-end woven designs; and sculptural, artful forms. There is a special category focus on lighting, accent furniture, dining tables and chairs, laptop desks, and console and nesting tables.

Aviary

TrendWatch’s color and pattern presentation for Spring 2020 celebrates avian motifs and patterns inspired by nature’s most colorful creatures. In this open, airy space, artful abstracts that recall the works of modern masters nestle with feathery motifs and patterns. Greens, blues and incoming reds are hue headliners. Products include furnishings in all product categories - especially cases and upholstery in light and white finishes, as well as accents featuring avian motifs, artful abstracts, feather and feather-like patterns, cane, iridescent finish treatments and color complements.

“IMC’s proprietary TrendWatch program is important for furniture and home décor buyers and suppliers looking to identify trends that positively impact sales and shape consumer preferences,” said Dorothy Belshaw, executive vice president, chief marketing and digital officer for IMC. “TrendWatch highlights the diversity of on-trend product at High Point Market through both exhibits and informational presentations.”

The three vignettes will be located in the walkway between IHFC and Showplace near the transportation terminal, in the IHFC Green Lobby and in the Suites at Market Square lobby. The TrendWatch: Spring 2020 seminar will be held from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 in the Suites at Market Square Seminar Room and the TrendWatch Tour, which also is led by Smith Vincenti, will be 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27. Printed copies of a TrendWatch publication will be available at the opening day seminar and digitally via a QR code scannable at each of the displays.

To be considered for TrendWatch, exhibitors must submit digital imagery (measuring at least 5”x7” at 300 dpi) and a completed product description form by Feb. 26, 2020.
