Large retail chains and major independents actively shopped Troy, NC-based Capel Rugs, creating an especially busy Winter Las Vegas Market for the company as buyers shopped the line for fresh looks to spice up their floors. Alongside these retailers was the contingent of smaller merchants and independent designers that regularly visit the rug source’s popular showroom in the World Market Center’s Building A.
“Our traffic was even with last winter’s Vegas market, but the level of activity seemed much busier and the amount of orders placed was ahead of 2019!” said Cameron Capel, president of sales and marketing for Capel Rugs. “Business has generally been good for retailers in the West and other regions, and there’s a lot of optimism about the prospects for growth in 2020. As a result, retailers are hungry for dynamic new designs and strong values that can generate excitement and attract shoppers.”
Leading the way for Capel Rugs was Charise, an upscale, hand knotted traditional collection from India that features classic motifs updated for today’s lifestyles. The 100% wool rugs are available in eight patterns and color ways: Isfahan in sand, Kazak in blue multi, Keshan in champagne, Mahal in dark chocolate, Peshawar in slate ruby, Tabriz in fog blue, Ushak in scarlet and Ziegler in terra cotta. The elegant collection comes in 3’ x 5’, 5’ x 8’, 8’ x 10’ and 9’ x 12’ sizes. A 5’ x 8’ rug may retail for under $1,199.
Also doing well at the Las Vegas Market were seven new styles added to the popular Avanti collection. A hand tufted, all-wool design from India, Avanti’s new patterns include Eleanor, in ice blue; Kazak, in slate terra; Keshan, in red/navy; Medallion, in ivory/denim; Oushak, in natural/multi; Panel in greystone; and Wyman, in ink. This collection, which features a loop pile construction, is available in 3’6” x 5’6”, 5’x 8’, 8’ x 10’, 9’ x 12’ and 10’ x 14’ sizes, as well as a 2’6” x 8’ runner. A 5’ x 8’ rug may retail for under $339.
“The new patterns we’ve added this season take the collection in a slightly more traditional direction but with very on-trend, up-to-date colors,” Capel said. “The new Avanti designs offer a high level of quality at a great price, and they are set to begin shipping next month.”
Also placing well at market was Bayview, a contemporary, made in the U.S. braided collection expanded with two new colorways — metal and lambswool. This best-selling design is constructed of wool, nylon and polyester and features a luxe, subtly textured, 5/8-inch-high pile inspired by the soothing, gently rippling currents of water. Available in a wide range of cross-sewn rectangle and oval/round shapes, Bayview also is offered in five other colorways – sage, granite, twilight blue, cinnabar and neutral.
At the Las Vegas Market, Capel Rugs also debuted new colors for two other popular collections – Makrana and Hammock. Makrana, a distressed, hand knotted traditional pattern in wool and viscose, is now available in sage and mineral blue. Hammock, a cross-sewn braided rug with a signature rope border, was recently expanded with three colorways – sharkskin, deep sea and sea salt.
At the winter market, Capel also featured several recent High Point introductions that were being shown in Las Vegas for the first time. Particularly well received were: Abingdon, a hand woven blend of New Zealand and Indian wools featuring a relaxed, textural design available in three colorways — granite, ink, and sesame; Raza, a machine made, plush rug available in three neutral tones – denim, mushroom and stone; and Wanderer, a braided design that merges global influences with a melting pot of colors and textures with five colorways – ocean blue global blue, deep blue, spice and cognac.
